Mr Noodle

I can't wait for the next month or so, I'll finally have a bunch of stuff I'll be able to show. But until then, I did a quick sketch of Mr. Noodle from Elmo's world. I watch these with my daughter over and over again. Its really mind numbing stuff. So when I watch 'em I usually entertain myself by trying to figure out how each puppet is being moved and when and how they're using green screens. But occasionally I actually find myself laughing at Mr. Noodle. The real Mr. Noodle, not his weirdo brother, that guys just lame.

Bamboo test drive

before bed sketch to test out my new bamboo. I finally got around to replacing my old wacom intuos 1. Its pretty cool, nice and small. it gets the job done. But I just got a cintique at work tho, and it rocks. So now I think I might have to get a tablet pc, it costs about the same and you get a whole computer to go along with the screen to draw on.

hedshots

I know I haven't posted in a while, but it hasn't been for lack of things to do. I have two games I'm working on or have worked on and I just need to wait for them to get out. Of course, I could be doin other stuff on my own, you know, right after I excersize more, and floss, and recycle. But unitl then, here is some stuff from the game I'm working on now. This are really just some teaser images. The full art (in prog)can be seen on the game site.

The game should be out later this year. Until then, hope you likes!

Medusa

This was done for a friendly art challenge with some other concept guys. This is my take on Madame Medusa. I really had fun on this, I wanted her to look like she was a little haggered, like she's probably had one too many, once too often.

more lunch

so far so good, Here's another lunch sketch. I realize I've done the whole glowing ball thing twice in a row now. I'll have to avoid that for a while. Oh well.

lunchtime art

So my co-workers and I recently decided to try to make better use of our lunchbreaks, by using that time to see if we could crank out some quick sketches. So far, I've done these two. I'm trying to get one done at least every Tuesday and Thurday, or for as long as its fun or I get too busy ;p

skool

I recently read something I wrote to my wife in her high school yearbook, of course this was way back when she was still just a way out of my league crush. Anyhoo, I was shocked to see all my spelling errors, with words like "Coledge" and "Gradueight". Which was made all the worse considering it was my senior year. Thank god she wasn't into smart guys ;p

spidertanks

Not sure why, but I felt like sketching up some spidertanks. Not the most practical design, but niether were AT-ATs if you really think about it.

Sign Tosser

Don't know if you got guys like these in your neck o' the woods. But 'round here, they're all over. Rumor has it, for every new flip trick they learn, they get a dollar raise. no 401k tho ;p
This was a speed test for myself, I knocked this out in about 25 min.

Diesel Gun

Quick sketch for fun.

Pink Scrunchie

A quick sketch just for fun, really just an excuse to draw an Oger. I've been having a lot of fun lately painting exclusively in photoshop. I'm trying to cut out a preliminary penicl stage, ideally to go faster and to keep the drawing more fluid.

Double Up

So I kinda figured out early on that I really dug doing the double card sketch. I think it actually made things faster for me. Its like doing one drawing over two cards. I get to have some minor character interactions, and I can work with a more Horizontal composition. The only hook is that I wanted them to make at least a little sense when looked at individually. Odds are they will never be put together again once they get shipped out. Unless you get really really lucky.

Wolverine / Sabretooth:
I definitely wanted to do a Wolverine and Sabretooth card. Since Sabretooth is now dead, it felt fitting to pay tribute to the old rivalry I knew so well growing up. I was tempted to do a version of the scene where Wolverine takes of Sabretooth's head but I thought it you just got a single card of a decapitated Sabretooth, well, that would be kinda lame.
Also, on a side note. Marvel has recently instated an initiative stating that all Marvel Characters no longer smoke. After all -PUBLIC SERVICE ANNOUNCEMENT- Smoking is hazardous to your health and makes your breath smell like butt and chicks will never want to kiss you ( unless they smoke too - then you're golden ).
So in case any of you were wondering what that stogie was doing flying out of Wolverine's mouth.. well, he just quit. Shortly after this scene he went out and bought some nicotine patches.

Gambit and Rogue:
Man, I loved those characters growing up. I liked the fact that gambit was supposed to be a player and all slick, but he ends up getting all hung up on this chick he can't even touch. Man, thats gotta suck. And in case you were wonering what that last pic is, I really just wasn't too stoked on how the inks on her head came out. So, for kicks, I went and painted her head, just to see if I could get myself to like it more. Anyway,
Enjoy.

More Marvel Masterpieces

Okay, as promised, here are some more of the sketch cards I did for the Marvel Masterpieces set.
I hope you dig em.
Couple of things nobody will notice, but I got a kick out of...
Cable:
Cable is the man that has it at, and he's usually carrying it all with him all the time. But what does the does the discerning merc from the future really need... a spoon of course. A little Cambell's chuncky chicken noodle will make almost anybody, even cyborgs feel just a lil' better.
Magneto:
I can't help but think that If I had the mighty power of magnetism, I'd probly just waste it on some of your lesser known uses, like finding my keys or always having that extra paperclip handy.
Doctor Strange and Clea:
Here's what I love about Doctor Strange... If you really think about it, he's this guy whose already spent like 10+ years going thru med school, had a career as a doctor, lost it all, mastered magic, and whatever else in between. This dude had to be at least in his early sixties, at least. And Clea is like this 200 year old princess from another dimension, but she'll always look like she's 20. So basically you got this older guy who has a really young lookin chick who not only loves him, but is also his disciple. Doc Strange is the Man!

back again

Hi everybody,
all 1 or maybe 2 of you,
I'm back from whats been a really crazy few months. Since my last post I've officially become a new dad. I gots me a brand new beautiful baby girl. She's so rad. Her name is Issabella. But I like to call her Izzy. Check out her awesome-ness at her very own blog, updated much more regularly than mine I might add.
http://www.isabellaortega.blogspot.com/

But just for kicks, I thought I'd try to update my blog at least once a year, hopefully more. I gave CeeBee such crap about not having a blog, and now he's an updating monster.
http://kickstandkids.blogspot.com/

Well, I'm workin on it I swear.
So for now here are some more sketch cards. I had much more fun on this batch, I'll have some more to post later.

pirate

Heres a pirate character I got to design for the now indefinitly-on-hold Pirates of the Caribbean card game. The concept was a little strange, He was supposed to be half gargoyle. Kinda like Blade meets hunchback of Notre Dame. What can I say, some writers are disinclined to not be uninhibited by the established conventions of story telling. Rock on, keeps me on my toes.

This was actually a redraw for me, 'cauz I really disliked the original drawing I did. Which I think gives a lot more credit to the card artist who really did a fantastic job of just bringing this very unconventional-and honestly quite odd- pirate character to life. Big props to Ed Tadem. If you have a chance, you should really check them out on his site:

More stuff

well, here's some more stuff. One of these days I'm gonna get my act together and I'll actually show some finished projects. But for now, here is some more random stuff from a qucky project I did... lets just say.. for fun.
Anyway, long story short, I had about 24 hours to do all this stuff ( well, even less if you count the time I lost from being uber sick and doped up on benedril ). Murphy's law, right? If nothing else, it was an excellent excersize in time management.

in prog

Heres something I'm just toolin with for fun at the moment. there'a a bit of a story behind it, but I'll probly get to that later.
For now here's a couple of sketches of a thor head and a clunky Iron Man.

sum more

Okay so here are another few, I'm only gonna post the ones I don't strongly dislike. This turned out to be a bit of a rush, but thats okay, keeps me sharp... or humble. whatever.
here you go.
